Announcing the 2014 Conference

We are pleased to announce that the 2014 ALSCW Conference will take place Friday and Saturday, April 4th and 5th at the Indiana Union of Indiana University. Please pass the word to your colleagues, and greet the spring with us in beautiful Bloomington. Plans include a preliminary evening of readings on Thursday night, April 3rd, and an ALSCW board meeting on Sunday morning the 6th.

The IU Union sponsors express bus service between Indianapolis Airport and the conference site. Rooms will be available for conference-goers at the Union as well as in several hotels adjacent to campus. Watch for follow-up announcements with more particular information. We are looking forward to seeing you this coming April.

Rosanna Warren on the Humanities in the New Republic Online

An article on the Humanities by Rosanna Warren has appeared in the New Republic online. Rosanna notes that her original title was “Crisis in the Humanities?” (the question mark is important), rather than the unapproved title “Panic: The Decline of the Humanities-and Civilization” given to the piece by the New Republic. Rosanna notes that she stands by the article, but not the title (which sends exactly the wrong message).
